Impulse Relays

Impulse relays, which are often referred to as bi-stable relays, are a form of latching relay that changes the contact state with each voltage input pulse. Impulse relays are renowned for their high vibration and shock resistance.

When power is applied impulse relays determine which position the relay is in and energise the opposing coil. The contacts within the relay transfer and then maintain that position when power is removed. When power is reapplied, the relay contacts transfer to the opposite state and then holds that position until the power on/off cycle is repeated.

Impulse relays are ideal for applications such as switching a single device on or off from one or more different locations with a push button or momentary switch, such as a lighting circuit, or a conveyor.
