What are light beam sensors?

Much like Light Curtains, Light Beams, or motion movement sensors, are optoelectronic devices designed to monitor a predetermined area of a machine or zone for the ingress of personnel or objects. Sometimes referred to as Laser Scanners, these compact systems utilise a beam of light to scan the surroundings for movement.

How does a light beam sensor work?

When these emitted light beams intercept an moving object or person (or part of a person such as a finger) they send a signal back to the control system causing an alert notification that could disconnect machine power or perhaps track the moving objects, depending on the installation.

Easy to install, light beam sensors typically offer plug and play capabilities, making them easy to move and reinstall. The data they generate can be helpful for safety planning and traffic monitoring and they are capable of monitoring large areas depending on the model incorporated.

Where are motion movement sensors used?

These sensors have multiple applications including monitoring high traffic areas of warehousing and security access controls. Monitoring automation and process control and industrial applications and the flow of traffic in hazardous areas to name just a few.
