Interlock Switches

Interlock switches are typically utilised within a safety network designed to protect operators from accessing areas of dangerous processing machinery that is a potential risk to health and safety. Incorporated as a form of safety device mechanism within machinery and industrial equipment access panels and safety doors.

When a safety door or guard is opened, the interlock switch trips and opens the circuit which can be used to stop process machinery preventing machine operation. Safety interlock switches can function independently but are generally monitored by safety relays and other systems to prevent fault-masking and ensure the interlocked system is capable of not being bypassed. Commercial environments use interlock switches in machinery of all types such as automated gates, elevators and slam-lock doors.
