Grab wire switches, often referred to as rope pull switches, are a rope operated switch commonly found on a processing line used to stop a piece of machinery. When the rope is pulled in the event of a hazard or a processing failure the electrical circuits powering the machinery are interrupted, preventing the process from continuing. Grab wire switches installations are usually equipped with a reset knob to prevent the process from restarting unintentionally, and often an emergency stop button is included.

Typically, grab wire switches operate in the same manner but differ in their current and voltage capacity, dimensions, construction material and the length of rope that they can safely function with.
