Poteniometers and Trimmer pots help you control the current flowing through an electric circuit and are available in a range of different styles. Potentiometers can be used in a variety of industrial and commercial applications and have set maximum and minimum values. You can set the resistance between these levels which alters the current allowing you to control an electrical device. Poteniometers are easily varied between these levels whereas Trimmers are generally set perhaps once and are smaller in nature.

Also known as variable resistors, their role in a circuit is to allow the amount of resistance to be changed, when the resistance is decreased the flow of the current increases and vice versa.
