Communications & Networking Modules
Communication and networking modules are usually installed into switches or routers to provide interfaces for existing networks. Examples of this hardware include ethernet modules, fibre channel (FC) cards and network adapters. They are added to the empty slots within switches or routers to expand their functionality - for example by connecting fibre cables to increase bandwidth or installing a WAN networking module to establish a Wide Area Network between two locations.
